Catherine Bragg

–

Evergreen Park, Illinois

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine "Kat" "Freen Freen" Bragg on July 28, 2025. Born on July 19, 1938, in Madden, MS, Catherine was a beacon of love, resilience, and generosity. Known for her compassionate spirit, she touched many lives with her kindness and warmth. Catherine's life was a testament to her faith, her Baptist values reflected in her every action. As Proverbs 31:25-26 says, "Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue."

Catherine spent her working years in a factory, where she demonstrated the same level of dedication and resilience she applied to every facet of her life. A hearty lover of life, she enjoyed walking through the Evergreen plaza, shopping, and playing slots at the casino. She was a proud resident of Evergreen Park, Illinois, having also lived in Carthage, MS, and Chicago, IL. More than anything else, Catherine cherished her family. Her love for her family was her guiding star, a love so profound and encompassing that it will forever resonate in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Catherine is survived by her children Debra Bragg, Sheila Bragg, Robert Ernest, Otis Jr, and Daniel Coleman. She was a beloved grandmother to Jeremy Harrison, Twana Bragg, Antoine Thompson, and Tyesha Franklin, and a cherished great-grandmother to Antoine Jr, Angelo Thompson, Destiny Reed, Ayana Thompson, Amare Thompson, Jeremy Avery, Eva Nicole, Leo Jayco, and Xander Thompson along with a huge amount of nieces, nephews and cousins. Catherine also leaves behind her siblings E. Stewart, Larry Stewart, Billy Stewart, Lamar Whittington, Barbara Stewart, and Dorothy Walls. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Mandy Stewart, her daughter Gwennell Bragg, and her siblings Jerry Stewart, Onnie Lee, Bonnie Banks, Bonnie Grace, and Rita McBeath.

We invite all who knew and loved Catherine to share their memories and upload photos to the memorial page. Let us remember not just that Catherine died, but that she lived, and that her life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. As we honor and celebrate the legacy of Catherine Bragg, let us embrace the love and warmth she shared, and continue to carry her spirit within us.
